The HCHSAA was saddened to learn of the death of Ruby WALLACE Dee ’39, a legend in the American theater and a political activist and pioneer for civil rights throughout her life. She was an Academy Award nominee, and winner of Grammy, Emmy, Obie, Drama Desk, and SAG awards, as well as recipient of the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Medal of the Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, the Frederick Douglass Award and the Lifetime Achievement Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum.
