Mari HOASHI Franklin ’84

Mari is a tech-savvy Illinois attorney committed to diversity, inclusion, and individual empowerment through access to education. For over a decade, Mari’s practice has focused on educational access for every student, helping students and families understand the impact that their health conditions have on their ability to meet the expectations of academic institutions, and developing enforceable processes that allow students to access their education in the least restrictive environment. Mari also provides private college selection consultations, helping all students develop a deep understanding of their own requirements for their college education, and translating that understanding into successful applications to colleges that meet and exceed the student’s needs.

Mari’s history also includes sophisticated data research & analysis in support of economic analysis for complex litigation; library automation system implementation and training for academic libraries nationwide; corporate contract and intellectual property administration; marketing and business development for technology companies; user experience and user interface design; and ADA compliance for both physical facilities and software interfaces. Mari holds a patent for a branched logic scripting tool; a law degree from Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago-Kent College of Law; and a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology and linguistics from the University of Chicago. Mari is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.

At Hunter, you could always find Mari singing. She sang in Junior Chorus, Senior Chorus, Madrigals and Jazz Chorus. She was a G.O. officer, enthusiastic organizer of Carnival, and reliably behind the scenes at productions for Musical Rep and Brick Prison Playhouse. Hunter is a critical foundation for everything Mari has achieved in life, and she is grateful for this opportunity to re-engage with her sisters and brothers of the Joyful Elite.

Mari serves on the board’s Diversity and Membership Committees.
