Maria Hekker ’80

Maria Louisa Hekker graduated from Hunter College High School in 1980 and is a proud member of the first co-ed class ever admitted to the school. Maria currently serves on the Audit Committee, the Development and the Governance Committee of the HCHS Alumnae/i Association and will continue to be a member of its Diversity Committee.

Maria has over thirty years of business, management, operations and legal experience with public, private and non-profit entities. She currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Northern California (ACLU NC Foundation). She also chairs the Audit and Compliance Committee and serves on the Development Committee for the ACLU NC Foundation and its affiliate. Maria is also a member of the Executive Group for the Glen Park Greenway (a project of the San Francisco Parks Alliance). She has previously served on the Board of the ACLU NC Foundation’s affiliate and as a member of that board’s Executive Committee and has also served on several other non-profit boards over the past three decades. Maria was a principal of and the Chief Operating Officer for a privately held, international consulting firm for two years. Maria also served as the General Counsel of a Berkeley based financial services and technology company for almost a decade. Before that, Maria worked in the San Francisco and Milan offices of a multi-national law firm, where she specialized in international corporate and securities matters. Maria holds a B.A. in Religious Studies and Italian from Dartmouth College and a J.D.
from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Maria lives in San Francisco, California with her family. She welcomes the opportunity to add her legal and compliance experience to the many other talents already represented on the HCHSAA Board of Directors and to help expand HCHSAA’s presence in California.
