After 20 years of service at the Institute of International Education, Peggy became its Chief Operating Officer in 2005, transitioning to the role of Senior Counselor in 2011. The IIE assists the U.S. Government in administering the Fulbright Program and also manages programs for foundations and corporations.
Before joining IIE in 1984, Peggy served as Assistant Director of Stanford University’s Overseas Studies Program and then as Coordinator of Graduate Services/Fellowships for the University of Hawaii’s Center for Asian and Pacific Studies. Her prior career focused on the development of U.S.-China exchanges as a staff member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and the Asia Society’s China Council, and on domestic policy issues working for NYC’s Mayor Lindsay, the JDR3rd Fund, and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Peggy holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University in Modern Chinese History and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She chairs JCIE-USA (Japan Center for International Exchange).
Peggy is Secretary of the HCHSAA Board and serves on the Executive Committee of the board, and as EC liaison to the Communications Committee and Governance Committee.
