Sophia YiRui Liao is a proud member of Hunter College High School’s Class of 2016. After attending The University of Massachusetts Amherst for her freshman year, Sophia received an internship offer at a fashion magazine in New York City and moved back to take the job. As an intern, she closed a brand partnership with the Hilton brand and was then promoted to Fashion Editor. She subsequently took a year off from college to work with Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, Co-Founder of Gilt and Glamsquad, on partnerships and business development for a consumer tech venture between Allergan Pharmaceuticals and The Boston Consulting Group. After the platform’s public launch, Sophia matriculated at Baruch College where she graduated from The Zicklin School of Business with a major in Marketing and a minor in English. She started at Neuberger Berman in the Institutional Client Group this June 2021. Prior to NB and while attending Baruch, Sophia worked in media, consumer technology, data analytics, fashion and finance. She co-organized the 2017 Technology, Healthcare and Finance Conference at The NYTimes Center, was the first hire for a Direct-to Consumer startup that launched with Vogue Magazine, and covered New York Fashion Week across eight consecutive seasons. During her senior year at Baruch, she launched a personal styling service intended for just her close friends but saw her work photographed by BFA and featured in The Daily Front Row. Sophia currently lives in New York City and enjoys frequenting art museums, listening to podcasts and skiing in her free time.
With her diverse interests and experiences, Sophia believes she would be an asset to the HCHSAA’s fundraising, marketing and business efforts. It would be her honor to work with the HCHSAA to shape the future of Hunter and help current students and teachers succeed in an ever-changing world.
Sophia is Chair of the Membership Committee, and also serves on the board’s Communications, Programs, and Ad Hoc 3-Year Planning Committees.
